A deciduous shrub that is bushy and has very flexible shoots that produce rounded inflorescences that are 5 centimetres across. These inflorescences are made up of numerous small, lightly fragrant yellow flowers that open from hairy buds in late winter and early spring before the narrow, oval leaves appear.

Key Facts

Ultimate size (after 10-20 years): 1 – 1.5 meters tall and 1 – 1.5 meters spread

Soil: Loam

pH: Acid, Alkaline, Neutral

Position: Full sun, partial shade

Hardiness: H4

Planting

When the soil is not frozen and the temperature is not too high, plant Edgeworthia. Container-grown Edgeworthia can be planted at any time of the year, but autumn and winter require less care. Put them in fertile, well-draining soil.

Edgeworthia thrive in full sun, so choose a spot with a southerly or westerly orientation. If they grow in light shade, they will produce fewer flowers.

Care

Edgeworthia require little care. Make sure the soil is kept moist, particularly during drought. Your Edgeworthia will appreciate an occasional fertiliser and mulch.
